Scientists from the South African Astronomical Observatory reported the discovery of one of the brightest “new” stars.
“New” refers to stars whose luminosity suddenly increases by 10,000 times. This was recognized as a star under the SMCN index 2016-10a, located in the Small Magellanic Cloud.
