The Skoda Roomster entry-level engine 69bhp 1.2-litres petrol needs to rev the engine hard to make the decent progress whereas the 1.2 TSI 105 is powerful and pulls to everyday demands. The other two 1.6 turbodiesels are also there, of which the 89bhp gives just enough speed.
At high speeds the Roomster is fine but a little uneasy in small streets with lots of road hurdles. The body is not flat on twisted or edgy roads. The Roomster has good amount of grip and quite precise steering. However, there are Scout Models also with more firmness and good ground clearance to avoid the bumps.
The models experience low wind and road noise but the engines make a fair amount of noise. 1.2 TSI has low noise but the diesel counter-part creates quite a ruckus. Also, there is a bit of clatter in the paddles. The manual Roomster has a stiff gearshift.
The car is having great value for money. The car is small in size but great in interior space and boot capacity and is comparable to its bigger rivals. The car has great fuel efficiency and the emissions are quite low.
The front, side and curtain airbags as well as ISOFIX child seat mounting are standard in all the Roomster models, although the stability control system costs extra money. The car security features include deadlocks, an immobilizer and a visible vehicle identification number.
The car’s interiors are not impressive enough but are firm and durable in quality with the focus or reliability and practicality. The two-way adjustable steering wheel and the adjustable driver’s seat help in finding a good driving position. The layout of the dashboard is quite logical with well placed controls and systems, although the front visibility could have been better. Also, windscreen pillars are thick making visibility poor and making parking a tedious job.
The rear middle seat is uncomfortable. All rear middle row seats are foldable and removable with the removing being a tiring job.
Basic models have electric front seats, CD player but no remote door locking. The SE model has the locking, air-conditioning, electric rear window, parking sensors and sunroof. SE plus also has 15 inch alloy wheels, roof rails and climate control. The Scout variant has leather steering wheel and 4×4 effect body mouldings.
