2014 Renault Scenic MPV ReviewOctober 16, 2014
Petrol engines are available as 109bhp 1.6 and turbocharged 1.2 with 114bhp. Diesel engines which should be preferable come as a 109bhp 1.5-litre, with or without stop-start system, and 128bhp 1.6 turbodiesel which is more powerful than any of the above.
Grand Scenic’s ride is not comfortable as it gives an unsettling and bumpy feel at any speed which is a great disappointment as it is one of the important features in an MPV. Handling is pretty good with good body control but again, the steering is uncomfortable with an artificial feel.
The Grand Scenic is not a noisy car but it’s not the quietest either. Wind and road noise sustains in the car in addition to the suspension noises when over potholes. The engines, however, are quite quiet with just a bit of vibration sounds coming through the pedals.
The marked prices are competitive with a good amount of discounts available in the market. The resale value is a little low as compared to the rivals. Fuel economy is pretty good with worthier and less-consuming engines.
The quality of the interiors is neither too good nor too bad as the cabin looks great as a whole but has a few let downs with not very good quality controls and panels. A lot of adjustments are available for the seats and steering wheel. Rear visibility is not very impressive. The radio and Bluetooth controlling system is not boldly marked and is not very user-friendly.
Front and side airbags are present with curtain airbags in all the models. Stability control is a standard feature too. Deadlocks and a fully integrated stereo are there as security features.
Second and the third row can adjust five adults easily. Headroom is plenty. The rearmost seats fold well in the floor. The second row seat can be put down towards front or lifted out which is a pretty tiring and two-man job.
The Grand Scenic is available in one trim level which is the Dynamique TomTom. This trim gives a wide amount of features including high-end ones like alloy wheels, Bluetooth, auto lights and wipers, cruise control and TomTom satellite navigation as standard. The standard features also include a four-year warranty which includes free servicing and roadside assistance for the same period.
