Archaeologists have discovered a secret passage, which they believe could lead to a karst underground lake (cenote) under the base of the ancient temple in Chichen Itza. Scientists hope that the new walled passage will slightly open the veil over the mystery of the ancient beliefs of the Maya people, writes the Daily Mail. The temple is dedicated to the Maya supreme God – Kukulkan, the “feathered serpent”, who presented the Mayan writing calendar. At the top of the truncated pyramid of Yucatan, a noble youth was sacrificed.
