“I would not want this to my worst enemy”: a girl who lost both legs

27-year-old Nicole Gren from Milwaukee was an ordinary cheerful girl. She worked as a coach in the support team, but in one day everything changed. A rare disease made her heart stop, after which she fell into a coma. Physicians fought for her life, 78 times launching her heart again. The girl was diagnosed with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia – a rare condition in which the heart rhythm is disturbed. When she woke up from a coma and found out that she had lost her legs, then, by her own admission, she “cried, cried, cried”. It seemed to her that the higher powers “punish her for all that she ever did wrong.” The operation was preceded by an attack – in June 2015 she fainted at the gas station. Her heart stopped. As it turned out later, she suffered from a symptom of a hereditary gene mutation that was not detected during her life. Doctors did not know about this, but they fought desperately for her life and even warned her parents that she can probably die.
