2014 Volkswagen Touran MPV Review

Two turbocharged petrol engines- 103bhp 1.2 and 138bhp 1.4 are available. The former engine gives you just enough and satisfying speed when you are completely loaded. Diesel versions have options of 103bhp 1.6-litre and 2.0 with 138bhp or 175bhp. The 1.6 diesel is good enough and the 2.0 diesel is ultra-smooth and powerful.
The Touran MPV gives a decent ride but it excels in terms of body control to give a really comfortable ride at high speeds. Handling is impressive too full of ease and silky-smooth with the same behavior applicable to the steering which is also light at low speeds and accurately heavy at high speeds.
The engines are quite quiet in general but the least powerful ones become a little noisy thundering when revved. Road noise is nicely prevented with a little bit of wind noise coming in. All in all, the car is pretty much refined.
The high-range Touran is pretty expensive but the more basic models are pocket-friendly. The resale values are decently good. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions are quite good in all the models with a special mention to the Bluemotion Technology.
Front, side and curtain airbags are present in all the models but the rearmost seats are not protected by them. Anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control are also standard features. An alarm comes in all the models except the S model.
The cabin of the Touran is not very impressive by the looks and style but is practical enough with lots of user-friendly features and controls in the dashboard. There are many steering wheel and driver’s seat adjustments. Forward and rear visibility is good too. A rear view camera is also present.
The seating designing is practically done in all the models with a spacious middle row of seats that can slide and fold too. Prominently, the luggage space is less. The rearmost seats are good for only short journeys and not very comfortable for long journeys.
Three trim level Tourans are available- S, SE and Sport. The cheapest of the three types being the S level trim with air-con, alloy wheel, four electric windows and cruise control. SE and Sport models add up auto headlights and wipers, parking sensors in the front and the back, Bluetooth, a USB input socket and VW’s Park Assist system.
