2014 Mazda 6 Tourer Review

The Mazda 6 Tourer comes with two engines, the 2.0 liter petrol and the 2.2 liter diesel with the former having six-speed manual gearbox as standard in 143bhp or 163bhp. The 2.2 liter diesel is better as it is more flexible and comes with 148bhp or 173bhp.
Mazda 6 has a precision focused suspension, leading to good body control and plenty of grip too. But problem is the light and vague steering around the straight-ahead. The ride comfort is not there even smallest bumps gives problem and high speed is also no different.
The engine gets the noise when pushed hard but vibrations are small. The wind and road noise are also less but not like Ford Mondeo Estate.
Although, the Mazda 6 is a large car but it still has good fuel economy and the CO2 emissions as the petrol version emits 131/km. The star of the section is 148bhp diesel emitting 118/km making it desirable as a company car.
The standard comes with front, side and curtain airbags other safety features are radar-controlled cruise control, smart city brake that works if front end collision is imminent and works between 2.5mph and 19mph and the brake control.
The 6 excels here as the driver seat is comfortable and the dashboard is organized. The ventilation controls are at low level and the infotainment system at eye level, but big letdown is the touch screen system and navigation which is also not easy to do. The dashboard is not good in design as some buttons are unnecessary like 12/24h button for the clock. The cabin is smart with the dashboard which feels solid though less in quality when compared to the rivals.
The 6 Tourer is a bigger car and so is the space. The front and rear space is good enough even for the six-footer. The seat at back is enough for three adults to sit comfortably. The boot with 522 litres capacity is big and gets 1664 litres when rear seat is folded, smaller than Ford Mondeo but better than what other cars are offering.
The starting range of the 6 starts from SE spec, standard comes with daytime running lights, electric door mirrors, air-conditioning, keyless start and a touch- screen infotainment system. Two variants of spec are SE-L and SE-L nav.
