2014 Kia Optima Saloon Review

All the versions of Kia Optima have same 1.7 liter diesel engine giving 134bhp and 239lb ft of pull. Get to the 2000 and 3000 rpm of engine to feel the powerful performance but not good enough on low rev range. It has standard six-speed manual gearbox but with paying extra you can get the automatic six-speed gearbox.
The cars lack in many ways as in comfort, jittery ride on all speeds and slow responding steering. But good thing is car grips well and body control is fine. The Kia Optima has the diesel engine which is not quiet or smooth and noisy on the motorway adding more when tyres rumble with road noise even at moderate speed.
Prices are reasonable enough for the entry-level Optima but it loses its competitive pricing when going for the higher range and do not offer much discounts as you can get on other rival cars. The resale value of the car is not much. The fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions can be said to be competitive but not up to the mark.
The cabin, no matter, how solid or smart, it is still far from what rivals are offering. The plastics are hard with rough edges giving an inferior feel. The reliability too, of Kia, is not high.
The Kia provides the front and side curtain airbags and the front head restraints. All the models come with stability control. There is an alarm, immobilizer and deadlocks too.
The reach and rake adjustments to the steering wheel and the height adjustment of driver seat come in all versions. The dashboard is good with the curve around driver seat making control buttons reachable. The markings of some of the buttons are not clear. Although space in front is plenty yet rear headroom is not good enough. The flat floor makes things easy for the fifth passenger. The boot is average-sized with 505 liters.
Three trim levels are there namely-1, 2 and 3. ‘1’ has standard equipment which includes alloy wheels, air-con, LED running lights, Bluetooth, power windows and mirrors, cruise control and remote locking. ‘2’ Tech model is business oriented with sat-nav and 12-speaker stereo, and the Luxe with more of style like double sunroof with electric blinds. ‘3’ is full leather seats and keyless go.
