2014 Hyundai i40 Saloon Review

The engines available are of four varieties which are, 133bhp 1.6-litre and 174bhp 2.0-litre petrols, and 134bhp and 114bhp 1.7-litre diesels. The 114bhp 1.7-litre diesel engine works impressively at high revs but disappoints at low revs especially below 1600rpm. We can say the same for the 134bhp diesel engine. All the four varieties have six-speed manual gearbox with a six-speed automatic gearbox as an option in 134bhp engine.
I40 gives a good stability at bendy roads with a good body control while contrastingly; the steering is not so flexible and comfortable for the driver at bends. The i40 diesel engines are pretty smooth and almost noiseless unless worked hard. The i40 Tourer works great in cutting the road as well as wind noise. The standard six-speed manual gearbox is pretty noise-making while the automatic gearbox works just the opposite.
The i40 cannot be compared to other Hyundai cars in terms of listing competitive and lower prices than the rivals but it sure supersedes Ford Mondeo in giving more worth to your money. The diesel engines give an average of over 60mpg. The car when fitted with the engine stop-start technology is pretty good at earning low company car tax rating.
I40 exceeds the lower range Hyundai cars in terms of interior quality. The car is made of soft-touch plastics with designer and high-quality interiors. The i40 has a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.
The car shows perfectness in terms of security and safety of the passengers. All i40 cars have driver aids, emergency brake assistance and electronic stability control. The car comes with seven airbags- front, side, curtain and a driver’s knee. The car has earned a maximum five star rating in Euro NCAP crash test. Other features include deadlocks, locking wheelnuts and an alarm to protect from any theft.
The eye-catcher is the dashboard with readable labels and user-friendly controls. The driver’s seat is a bit of a problem with the seat being too high. Four tall people can be seated comfortably. The boot is finely designed. The foldable seats don’t go flat though.
Active cars have alloy wheels, air-conditioning, Bluetooth and automatic lights and wipers. Style-spec has sat-nav, a rear parking camera, cruise control and dual-zone climate control. Exclusive models have leather upholstery and electric seat adjustments.
