The 197bhp turbocharged 1.6 petrol engine is great at power with great speed at accelerations and nice in-gear flexibility. Also, the 161bhp 2.0 diesel engine works well at high as well as low revs giving good potential during accelerating. There are other varieties of engines too like 1.6 petrols with 118 or 154bhp and 108bhp 1.6 diesel engines.
The handling of the DS4 is not so impressive with the suspension being too stiff and the damping levels not accurate enough. The car feels misbalanced and is a fear ride over bumps and potholes with not so controllable steering over mind-corner bumps. However, the car works well in edgy turns with a decent body control and grip. The 161bhp 2.0 diesel engine is not as smooth as other diesel engines of Citroën. The petrol engines on being worked hard make noise and it continues even while driving. The cruiser also experiences wind noise at 70mph and more.
The DS4 cost approximately exceeds by 20% over the equivalent C4 and will surprisingly cost you more than the rivals of the same standard. Even after being so expensive, the car lacks in keeping its value. Apart from all this, fuel economy is pretty decent.
Front, side and curtain airbags and electronic stability control come handy in DS4 for complete protection. The high range cars also have blind-spot monitoring system. All these features helped the car achieve five-star crash rating from Euro NCAP. Plus, alarm and engine immobilizers are also present for better safety of the car.
The front visibility is amazing with the raised positioning of the driving seat. Contrastingly, the rear visibility is not so good due to the small rear window. The buttons and gadgets are a bit cluttered and confusing, especially the buttons on the steering wheel which are difficult to understand. The front seats have enough head and legroom while the rear seats are just the opposite. The boot comes with good enough space. Even getting in the car creates hassles at the rear due to the designing.
DS4 comes as three trims which are Dsign, Dstyle and Dsport. Dsign being the first level has two powered windows, cruise control air-conditioning, remote locking, cornering foglamps and LED running light. Automatic lights and wipers, Bluetooth, parking sensors and climate control are added in the next level Dstyle. Lastly, Dsport adds leather upholstery to the above.
