The only petrol engine available is pretty good but to get the best one should be the real motive that you can get by trying out the diesel engine. There are three such engines available with 74-, 89- or 113bhp in 1.6-litre. The best one of them all is available only in XTR model.
The Berlingo has a steep design at the front and is perpendicular at the rear which makes it heavy and slow in motion but the good thing is that it gives an easy drive. The leaning design at the corners let the passengers be settled well even when running over potholes and uneven surfaces.
The petrol engine is decently quiet and same applies to the diesel engines. Wind noise is mostly shut due to the rectangular shape of the car.
The Berlingo is completely worth if we see the space provided. Citroen dealers are known to provide with lots of discount ranges. Even the resale values are decent. The diesels get around 50mpg as average with low running costs.
The material used is sturdy and rigid giving priority to durability rather showiness. Upright driving position given by the car is liked by some but not by all. Two-way steering wheel adjustment increases the comfort level of the driver. All the controls and equipment are rightly placed increasing the practicality.
The car scores almost full points in the spaciousness it provides with storage in the roof, dash, footwells and under the seats. Rear doors are sliding for easy access. Three separate rear seats makes the Berlingo special as three children can be seated at the back with ease. The boot is also spacious.
Normal VT models have a good range of specifications like front electric windows, split folding rear bench and a CD player. The better VTR models gives you options like parking sensors, sat-nav and cruise control. The range-topper XTR models have revised suspension, bigger tyres which are great for MPVs and three individual rear seats.
Standard features are two front airbags. However, side and curtain airbags are not available even as options. The car scored three stars in Euro NCAP crash testing. Three seats have Isofix child-seat-mounting points. All the models except the base model have remote central locking system with deadlocks. Alarm is also optional.
