Mercury Mountaineer came as a mid-size sport utility vehicle which was manufactured by Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company from 1997 to 2011. The car came as a twin of Ford Explorer. The car was appreciated for its nice handling and control getting a good name in its breed. Coming in the first generation, the 2000 model had slight variations from the Explorer. The car had two engine options- 4.0 L Cologne V6 and 5.0 L Windsor V8 available with 4-speed automatic and 5-speed automatic transmission. 2000 also became the year of a big controversy between the Firestone and Ford Motor Company because of many rollover accidents happening from the Mountaineer. Both the companies blamed each other and later on the matter was solved.
